August Update

As we all know the weather has been incredible this summer and the vines have been thriving! We're now beginning to think about harvest which will be a lot earlier this year than last year. Picking started on the 1st October in 2021 whereas this year, we're looking at a potential start around mid-September. Currently the vineyard is going through veraison, the stage where the grapes begin to ripen and really start to develop their sugars. This is a lot more obvious in red varieties such as our Pinot Noir because you can see the development of pigment in the skins as they turn from green into pink, then ultimately purple.

At the moment we're recruiting for pickers to help us harvest the 2022 crop! Pickers will get paid a piece rate (the more you pick the more we pay) and need to be flexible as picking days are determined by the ripeness of the fruit and of course the weather!

We're also looking for volunteers to join our community picking days. We're planning on running two community pick days on Saturdays where volunteers will be able to spend the day picking grapes in the vineyard and in return we'll put on a BBQ and open some wine!

If you are interested in either picking option, please email stating your interest to harvest@sandridgebarton.com and we'll get back to you with more details.

In other news, we've just released the latest vintage of our ever-popular Sparkling Elderflower from 2021. This year we've named it 'Foxworthy' after a tor on Dartmoor and have given it a fresh new label. Our 'Foxworthy' Sparkling Elderflower is a refreshing sparkling low alcohol alternative coming in at 5.5%. It is produced in the traditional method and spent 10 months on the lees. The elderflower was all foraged from the estate in the spring of 2021 and the finished product is very fresh, zesty and of course floral with a gentle spritz. You can buy this online or in our cellar door shop, priced at £15.00.

Over the next few weeks we'll be releasing some brand new wines so watch this space!
