July Update

Read time about 2 minutes

The doors of our new home at Sandridge Barton have now been open for six weeks and it has been great to welcome people back, show you around our site and guide you through our wines. We were delighted to welcome the one and only Oz Clarke to our new home to officially declare us open on a scorching June afternoon. Oz shared some memories from his first visit to Sharpham back in the early days and gave insights into how our wines have changed and evolved over the years since. It wouldn't be a true opening without a toast so we decided our brand new Summer Sparkling 2020 would best fit the occasion!

As we move into summer we are introducing a few new experiences for you when you visit:

Vineyard & Woodland Walks. We have spent the last few weeks securing a walking route that starts at our winery shop, leads you through our ancient cider orchards and woodland and up to our new vineyard 'Stonyfield' that was planted last May on a unique raised limestone bed. This trail will allow you to see the early stages of a vineyard planting and shows the growing conditions that make our vines thrive here in South Devon. This circular walk will take around 30-40 minutes and is a total distance of 1.3km.

Circa release their highly-anticipated a la carte menu. For the first couple months of opening, our restaurant Circa have been running a set menu that showcases some of the amazing local produce we have on our doorstep. From Thursday 7th July, Circa will be serving their full menu, with a mixture of delicious small plates perfect for sharing and pairing with wine, some classic mains featuring beef from our own herd of South Devon cows reared on the estate, and a selection of bar snacks for those looking for a small bite with a glass of wine. Check out their new menu here.

Our Guided Tasting tours are beginning to fill up fast so be sure to book if you want to be guided through our wines and the winemaking facilities by one of our expert hosts. If you want something a little more casual then the self-guided wine tastings are for you. These run daily and are our most popular option. You can select your own wines, pair with a cheeseboard or bar snacks from Circa, and enjoy with friends on our sun terrace.

Our vineyard is flowering! This is without a doubt one of the most important times of the year for us as successful flowering can really determine our potential yields for the 2022 harvest. Vines are self-pollinating so ideally we need dry, sunny and breezy conditions in the vineyard so as many flowers are pollinated as possible. So far so good, the forecast looks great for the week ahead and we have a high inflorescence count meaning a potential good crop... but the old saying is 100 days from flowering to harvest so we still have a long way to go!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
