Bold New Branding, Same Dart Valley Spirit

In 1981, on the south-facing slopes of the Sharpham Estate overlooking the River Dart, the Ash family made a bold move in what wasn’t much more than a hobby industry at the time. What started as a bold experiment with 13 trial grape varieties quickly blossomed into Sharpham Wine — a name that would become synonymous with quality, innovation, and the spirit of the Dart Valley.

Over the decades, Sharpham Wine earned national and international acclaim, from the early success of the Dart Valley Reserve to gold medals at the Sommeliers Choice Awards and Decanter World Wine Awards. Behind it all was a passionate team — including our now CEO and head winemaker, Duncan Schwab, who joined in 1992 — committed to crafting wines that reflect the unique character of our Dart Valley region.

In 2020, we started a new chapter. We moved across the river to our larger vineyard and set up a new purpose-built winery and visitor centre at Sandridge Barton. This site offered us the space and freedom to grow — both literally and creatively — while continuing to honour the Sharpham legacy. For the past five years, we’ve operated as Sandridge Barton, the home of Sharpham Wine, keeping our beloved Sharpham range alive under the SB umbrella while introducing exciting new wines that reflect our evolving vision.

Now, the time feels right to complete the transition.

We’re proud to announce that all of our wines — including those you’ve known and loved under the Sharpham name — will now be released under the Sandridge Barton label. This isn’t a goodbye to Sharpham, but a natural evolution. The same team and the same commitment to excellence — now with even more freedom to innovate, explore, and elevate the wines we produce.

We remain deeply grateful for the journey that brought us here. From the Ash family’s first vines to the vibrant community that has supported us through every vintage, Sharpham will always be part of our DNA. As we move forward as Sandridge Barton, we carry that heritage with us — and we can’t wait to share what’s next.
