Vines thrive when soils are alive. Healthy soils are full of microbiological life that is shaped by soil type, bedrock, climate and the wider landscape. When we remove as much human noise as we can, the vineyard has more say in how the vines grow and how the fruit tastes.
That is the idea behind our Single Vineyard range. Each of our sites has a slightly different make up despite being so close together, so each has a different voice. East Field sits closest to the river and at lower elevation, with iron‑rich Devon red soils and volcanic influence. Stonyfield is higher and breezier, with shallow limestone that gives a finer frame and bright line. Reservoir Field brings both threads together, upper slopes on limestone and lower rows on volcanic material.
In the best years we will bottle single varietal wines from each site to show those differences. We will continue to operate with a gentle approach in the cellar, with spontaneous ferments, very low sulphur and no filtration so the natural character of the fruit can shine. That makes this range a joy for anyone who loves terroir, and just as rewarding for a casual drinker who wants a good, expressive bottle made with care in a rising English wine region.
East Field was planted back in 2012, so the vines are well established and we've been working on some single vineyard wines from this site since 2020, with both the 2020 and the 2022 East Field Pinot Noir's winning Gold at the Wine GB Awards. We've also just released a Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Madeleine Angevine from this vineyard too.
Stonyfield was planted in 2021, so we harvested our first crop in 2024 which is currently in barrel and tasting great, so expect to see these wines make an appearance at some point in the next year.
Reservoir field was planted in 2023 and we're due our first crop this year.
We only plan on releasing wine from these sites in the best years, so wines will be limited in availability. But we're very excited to share this new project with you.
